I was on my way home from work late last night, driving on a country road. I didn't realize that I was coming up to an intersection until I saw headlights off to my left. I started to break a little, then let up thinking for a second that maybe they had the stop sign. Then I saw that I had the stop sign, so I began to break again but I think I was still hesitant. By then we were both at the intersection and I pressed the break harder and tried to swerve to my right, hoping they might just miss me. But I don't think the other driver fully realized what was about to happen either and I'm not sure he tried to break. He plowed past, slamming into me and taking off the front of my car as he spun to the other side of the road and into a field. If I had been driving any faster or didn't try to stop and turn when I did... well I'd either be dead or close to it; he would've hit me directly on my drivers side. A passerby saw the crash and stopped. A couple living near the intersection came out after hearing it. It took me a few moments to find my glasses and get out of my car. The passerby was coming over to me after checking on the other driver, who was already on his cel phone. As I went over to him to see if he was alright, I heard the siren of the police, and saw the lights. After a few moments an EMS arrived. The other driver seemed to be ok, just terribly shaken. I had taken some injury to my arm and collar bone, so the EMS took me to the ER for xrays. Thankfully nothing was broken. At the hospital, Josh and his mom showed up, and later the officer did as well, to get more info. He gave me only a ticket for a stop sign violation..!
I took off from work today to rest and get things started with the accident report for my insurance company and all that. They'll have some out to assess my car tomorrow, and I'll be getting a rental. We went out to the towing place to see my car and get all my things from it.. As we were turing to leave, the other driver showed up with his girlfriend, and then I noticed his car sitting two spaces away from mine. He said he'll be going back to the hospital for xrays and a liver ultrasound. Fuck. I hope he doesn't have any internal damage. Seeing him there unexpectedly, and not knowing how to express my sorrow.. I finally started to break down as we left.
I'm so glad no one was more severely injured. As shallow as it may sound in this situation, I'm really gonna miss my car. I'd only had her for just under a year and I was still paying on it. Your sacrifice will not be forgotten, Sharkie.
I'm still very upset about this whole thing. This shouldn't have happened.. If I'd just..been paying closer attention...
Edit: Just got the photos..
